Best Video of 2003:
You Don't Know My Name, Alicia Keys
I am far from being one of those typical teenage girls who sits in the "106 & Park" audience waiting for the latest B2K video to air (oh, by the way, have you heard, they've broken up), but I do seem to catch 106 & Park on an unusually regular basis.
As you may know, I have become disenchanted with the dumb T&A videos that are aired on a certain network; but I have managed to become totally infatuated with one particular video: "You Don't Know My Name" from Alicia Keys.
Is it me or does this video make you hot? It is such a beautiful accompaniment to the song. I actually don't know what I love more - the video or the song.
The whole premise of the video is romantic. A cute waitress falls for one of her customers, even though he doesn't know that she exists. She proceeds to call him (using her slightly cheap cell - how many times must she ask him if he can hear her??!! [She must subscribe to Rogers - Chris]) and tell him how she feels. C'mon, you know that's brave!
The concept of the video is simple and I'm sure that it's something most people can relate to. Think about it, you're at a crappy job, and the only reason that you roll out of bed to go to work is to see that certain someone that puts butterflies in your stomach. Once you've talked to him, you're on a high for the rest of the day. (Psst…my secret amour worked in the mall back in the day, but he told me that he liked me before I had the chance to tell him that I was diggin' him.)
My favourite scene is when Alicia Keys and Mos Def (her love interest in the video) slow dance together and share an innocent kiss. Oooh man, that scene gets me every time. It's the epitome of a sexy love scene. Not nasty or overly sexual, just classy.
I can't forget to mention how good Alicia Keys looks in the video. He hair looks sooo nice. I will, no doubt, head to my hairdresser very soon to get that hairstyle.
I hope that you have the opportunity to watch all five minutes of this beautifully shot video. It will restore your faith in videos...and love. ¤ Michelle
