Listen Up:
My hot list…

After composing my list, I realized that all the songs that I seem to be playing over and over share a common theme. They speak about the sensual things in life – like love, sex and desire. Some aren’t as in your face as others, but in their own little way, they evoke a tremendous amount of passion.

If you’re like me and looking for some snuggling-up-close-with-that special-someone-type of music, here are a few tunes that should put you in the mood. Enjoy…I know you will! ¤ Michelle

"Until the End of Time (Remix)"
Justin TImberlake featuring Beyonce, FutureSex/LoveSounds
Isn’t it nice to see Beyonce finally doing a duet with someone other than her man? If I had to hear another version of “Bonnie and Clyde,” “Crazy in Love,” or “Déja Vu” one more time, I thought that I’d hurt someone!

To be completely honest, I haven’t really liked anything that Justin Timberlake or Beyoncé released this year. So I wasn’t jumping for joy when I heard about this song. But since I am a pushover when it comes to a slow jam, I had to give it a listen.

Unlike any other song on my list, I would say that I like the arrangement of this song the best. The vocals are nice and the lyrics are cool, but I’m loving the slow groove and the sexy, hypnotic beat. I love how it pulsates. Is it me or is it getting hot in herre?

For the lovers who are planning a romantic night in with your honey, cue this song! Trust me, it works!

“Hate That I Love You”
Rihanna featuring Ne-Yo, Good Girl Gone Bad
I will admit to the world (okay, to the happygrrls audience) that I love me some Rihanna. No, not like that, but I am oddly fascinated by her.

She may not have the greatest vocals (um, remember “Unfaithful”?), but she’s so damn cute and stylish that I can look past her lackluster vocal ability and fall helplessly in love with her girlish charm.

I envisioned myself hating her duet with Ne-Yo as I could not possibly fathom how their vocal styles could mesh together. I thought that Rihanna’s somewhat pitchy voice would overshadow Ne-Yo’s silky R&B voice, thus creating noise rather than a hit song. However, they proved me wrong. Ne-Yo’s cool soulful vibe balances out Rihanna’s voice, creating an up-tempo love song that is far from sappy.

It’s the lyrics that I enjoy the most about the song. I’m soooo glad that they didn’t get all cheesy and profess their undying love for each other; instead, they opt to speak about how stupid they feel (in a good way) for loving someone so much. Awww, ain’t that sweet!

“Like You’ll Never See Me Again”
Alicia Keys, As I Am
On “Like You’ll Never See Me Again,” Alicia lets us know, in a very Prince-like way I might add (close your eyes and I’m sure that you can picture Prince singing this song!), that we should treasure each and every moment with the ones that we love because we don’t know when it will be the last time that we see them. Sentiments like that always get to me and feel like immediately running to that special someone and holding them tight.

This single touches me more than her HUGE hit “No One,” because she speaks about how fragile life is and how we should not take anything for granted. It’s dramatic, heart wrenching, beautiful and terrifying, all at the same time. I had to purchase her CD just on the basis of this song. Thanks, Alicia!

“Bed”
J. Holiday, Back Of My Lac’
If this song were produced by any other R&B singer (say, R. Kelly for instance), I’m positive that this track would not have the same effect. It would probably come off a little (a lot) salacious, raunchy and downright nasty! However, J. Holiday’s tender soft tone and sheer beauty (yes, I’m completely crushing on this corn-rowed cutie!), add an unadulterated amount of sexiness to this single. He lovingly lets his lady know that he loves and appreciates her and wants to treat her like the queen she is. That’s what I’m talking ‘bout!

Fave line: “Wake up it's time to finish, round two, round two…matter of fact, it's closer to three.”

Dammmmn, this song is too sexy for words! This is baby making music at its finest!

“Apologize”
Timbaland featuring OneRepublic, Shock Value
After hearing the original, I realize that I like the Timbaland joint better. Timbaland’s haunting background vocals adds another level of sorrow to this song. It softens the rock edge while still maintaining undeniable raw emotion.

Doesn’t this song make you want to go back and apologize for all the stupid things that you’ve done to someone that you love, like cursing them out over insignificant things and blowing things out of proportion? This is such a tragic love song, but a very necessary one. Be good to your loved ones!
