Music Review:
Dutty Rock, Sean Paul

DUTTY ROCK

You done know!

This is not your ordinary review of a new release, this is a reminder that this is the CD to buy, shoplift, download - whatever. Just cop this CD.

I know that Sean Paul's Dutty Rock came out in November 2002, but I have so much love for his 19 songs and three skits, I felt the need to share my love with the world. Also, I have professed my love for this man to everyone I know, and I am secretly hoping that he checks out our site, falls in love with me, and we live happily ever after. Yes, a girl can dream.

What I like about this CD is that just about every damn song is good. Like most CDs, there are a few songs that could have been left out - for instance, Bubble, but the other tracks are so much fun to shake my ass to (I'm proud to say that I have become a dancehall queen), sing to and chill to, that it's worth the 20 bucks.

Even though Sean Paul has been making music as far back as '96, his success came from the big hit, Gimme the Light. Every song that he has released since then has done just as well. His most recent song, Get Busy, made me a Sean Paul devotee. I'm not sure if it was the video or the song, but I am hooked. Maybe it's his sweet, sexy accent or his seductive lyrics; or it can also be the fact that he is a gifted dancehall artist who loves to make beautiful music. (Yo Sean, we can make beautiful music together! Okay, I will stop.)

The video for "Get Busy" got me because of its nostalgic nature. I'm sure that most of you can insert yourself into the TV screen and join the jam. Think about it, how many times have you been to a house party and someone's parents yelled at you for making' too much damn noise??? Big up to Little X for directing the video and dishing out some true West Indian flava!

What I definitely like about this CD is the way it flows. It starts off with some hype dancehall tracks and then flows into a nice smooth reggae groove. Once that it is done, he hits you again with some nice dancehall tracks.

The one thing that I can say about this CD is that once you hear it, you will love it. It took me all of a few minutes to realize that it would never leave my CD player.

I'm not sure if I convinced you to buy the CD or not, but please borrow it from anyone that you know and take a listen. ¤ Michelle
