Music Review:
World Outside My Window, Glenn Lewis
WORLD OUTSIDE MY...
I have to admit that the vocal similarities to Stevie Wonder are legit, but then again, Glenn Lewis has a definitive style all his own.
A T-dot native (that's Toronto for all you non-Canadians), Glenn Lewis has been in the music game for quite some time - so don't discount him as an overnight sensation!
He wrote his very first song at the impressionable age of 14 - to win the heart of a young lady. However, his efforts fell on deaf ears. He didn't win the girl, but he did realize that making music was definitely in his future.
His first jump into the music industry took place by performing at various R&B showcases in Toronto, and by performing regularly at the soul and funk venue, The Bump and Hustle. He also had the good fortune to be the opening spot on the Backstreet Boys tour in '96. During that same year his song, "The Thing You Do," was nominated for a Juno award.
However, life seemed to change with the release of the single Don't You Forget It from his CD, World Outside My Window. That hot single was on every playlist, and his video was a staple on the weekly countdown. It was also included in Red Star Sounds Volume 1: Soul Searching, a CD designed to raise money for inner-city music education. The album featured songs from Jill Scott, Macy Gray, Erykah Badu and fellow Canadian, Nelly Furtado.
Even though the Stevie-esque R&B single has made fans out everyone from Janet Jackson to Alicia Keys, the album has plenty of gems that will most likely make its way to number one. Songs such as Lonely, This Love, Dream and Your Song (For You) display his skill as a talented singer songwriter.
My favourite track off the album is Something to See. My man would definitely get some if he played this song for me!!!
It is not your typical R&B song, but the slow groove and the acoustic guitar will undeniably put you in the mood for love.
So if you are craving some true R&B accompanied by conscious lyrics, pick up World Outside My Window. You won't regret it. ¤ Michelle
