I was originally going to do a review on a current movie, but I thought that in keeping with the theme of this current issue, I would write about my favourite love scene from a movie.
The movie: love jones.
This movie came out way back in 1997, but I have yet to see a film that comes close to it. It is a romantic yet funny tale of two people not looking for love, but stumbling upon it and dealing with the hardships of L-O-V-E.
The love story is not the only thing that gets me. 31 minutes and 46 second into the movie the two main characters, Nina Moseley (Nia Long) and Darius Lovehall (Larenz Tate), finally do the deed.
After a night out with friends and then some dancing at a club, Nina and Darius go back to her place and hit the sheets. What makes this scene so powerful is that the sexual tension between them was built up in the previous 30 minutes. He wanted her and tried like hell to get her attention, and she blew him off until she finally accepted his not-so-subtle hints.
The scene starts off with Darius and his fine ass, kissing every inch of Nina's hot and bothered body. She obligingly returns the favour.
I especially loved watching Darius' well-defined chest dripping with sweat while he cradled Nina in his arms. In the background, Maxwell's "Sumthin' Sumthin'" plays, which only adds to the sensuality of the scene. Unfortunately this scene does not last long (it's under two minutes), but the passion and raw sensuality will make you rewind this scene at least three times.
