DEAL OF THE MONTH

Beauty 411: She handed me the littlest white tube, which contained a clear liquid gel. I squirted some on my finger and rubbed it into the apple of my cheeks. Honestly, I didn’t think that the gel would actually provide me with rosy cheeks, but after a few seconds, my cheeks took on a very natural glow. It wasn’t too red – it added the extra pop of colour that my face needed. READ ON >>

Beauty 411: Mariah Carey and Gwen Stefani are the latest pop divas to jump on the perfume bandwagon and capture their scent in a pretty little bottle. Although celebrities choose to diversify their talents wherever possible, I must say that the celebrity perfume has generally not been well received. Celeb perfumes are seen as a novelty and quickly lose their appeal. Seriously, who really wants to smell like Paris Hilton? READ ON >>

What's Hot: While Parisian fashion is seen as more couture and less ready-to-wear, the opposite seemed to be the case in New York. The fashions walking down many designers’ runways looked as if they could be plucked off the catwalk and worn right onto the streets of New York. READ ON >>

Dear Shopaholic: I also love the t-shirt and jeans look and I find that if I am running out the house but still want to look cute, I will put on a great baseball cap or paper-boy hat and hoop earrings and I suddenly feel a little more pulled together. Also, you can always just throw on a pendent necklace or a belt over top of your t-shirt. READ ON >>

Deal of the Month: While speaking with my sister a few weeks ago, I told her that I was using the same wallet for almost seven years. What was even worse was that a few months out of those seven years, I was actually using an old hand-me-down wallet from her. By the mystified and appalled look on her face, I got the feeling that she thought that I did something wrong. So after that conversation, I thought it was time to find the perfect wallet. READ ON >>

Deal of the Month: I had some U.S. cash left over from my Atlanta trip, so I was ready to do some damage in the mall. Okay, that’s a total lie. I’m not the most enthusiastic shopper (I do like to find deals, but shopping…not so much!) so I kinda knew that I was going just for the road trip, and not necessarily to fill my closet. READ ON >>

Lush: If you're interested in any Lush product that we've reviewed, you can simply click and order it online. Like their commitment to freshness, you can expect only the best at the Lush website. And like our commitment to our readers, we want to give you what you deserve - the best bathing experience of your life. READ ON >>

What's Hot for August: Gray has been around for several seasons and has been shown in the military trends, as well as the gender bender theme from last season, but this season it isn’t just in suits. We’re seeing it in blouses, dresses, and high-waisted trousers and skirts. Designers like Michael Kors are showing different tones and textures of grays being mixed and matched together, while Calvin Klein is pairing the same shade of gray in various fabrics. READ ON >>

FEATURED OLDIE

What's Hot for July: Summer is the time to give your feet an opportunity to shine and this season is no exception. The peep toe is back and bigger than ever. Being shown as a sling back, wedge, high heel, ankle strap or flat, anything goes this season. Wear these great shoes with this season’s hot Capri, the city short, or with your favourite skirt. READ ON >>

What's Hot for February: There is volume in the skirts - a return to the “balloon” look of fall, volume in the sleeves, and most noticeably in their dresses. It’s a real feminine look – contrast this to the masculine-inspired suits from fall/winter ‘06, and there is no better time than spring/summer to dress and feel like a woman. READ ON >>

What's Hot for August: Brocade jackets in strong colours like greens, reds, and purples are adding a pop to this season’s staple colours black, brown, and charcoal grey. And yes – black is back. Coats in rich coloured fabrics are being trimmed in fur on the collar, and even on the cuffs. The lavish feeling of the 40’s has once again returned. READ ON >>

What's Hot for February: The colours for this season mixed with the shapes and styles are really true to the spring feeling, cool and comfortable, but stylish and elegant. Primary colours are making a bold statement but black and white are still dominant for the spring season. READ ON >>

What's Hot for July: While the colours are vibrant and fun, the true staple of this season's clothing are the fabrics. Designers like Ralph Lauren are using textured fabrics such as tweed and herringbone, inspired by old Hollywood actresses like Katharine Hepburn. READ ON >>

What's Hot for February: Has denim ever gone out? It's here again as with every other season because it's so versatile. Enjoy the look dressed up or dressed down. READ ON >>

What's Hot for November: Cropped pants are hot this season as well. Pair them with mid-calf to knee-high boots to complete the look. The Gap has been displaying these pants in commercials and store displays early in the season. I found my pair at Zara for $35.00. READ ON >>

What's Hot for July: My favourite style is the cargo capris. They have pockets everywhere, and the little drawstring creates a nice effect. Pair it with an off the shoulder top, a thin-heeled sandal, and voila, you have a sexy look! READ ON >>

What's Hot for April: Through decades of fashion trends and fads, women had to sacrifice comfort for style. Nothing can replace a sexy dress and strappy sandals, but sometimes a girl needs a break from her heels. Thankfully going casual is "in". Now you can look trendy while styling those sneakers. READ ON >>

What's Hot for January: Did you get everything you wanted from Santa this past Christmas? If not, don't despair, you're just in time for the sales. Stores will be trying to clear out their winter stock to prepare for the new spring line. With cold weather lasting well into April, you can now fill your closet with all the great deals. READ ON >>

What's Hot for November: With temperatures hovering around 5 degrees Celsius, it's time to think about how to stay warm. Losing most of our heat from our heads, we need to start by covering up with a hat. Don't pull out your drab looking toques yet, you can still be stylin' with these other options. READ ON >>

What's Hot for August: Reminiscent of summer, peasant and folkloric blouses, floral and paisley prints, and all shades of denim are carried into the fall season. You will find everything from summer, but designed with the fall weather in mind. READ ON >>

What's Hot for April: Instant updates to your wardrobe. READ ON >>

May Deal of the Month: This store houses racks and racks of clothing in all hues - vibrant greens, bright yellows and orangey oranges. As I sifted through the pretty blouses and tees, I knew that I was bound to find a colour that was perfect for me. As luck would have it, I tried on millions of brightly coloured clothing, but there was only one thing that had me prancing up and down the fitting room like I was Naomi Campbell. READ ON >>

April Deal of the Month: When I noticed that the harsh Canadian subzero temperatures were a thing of the past, I decided that it was time to toss my puffy coat to the back of the closet and purchase a lighter jacket that would work well in the spring season. My quest took me to department stores, trendy retailers, and thrift shops, but I still couldn’t locate exactly what I wanted. It had to look trendy, sophisticated, and stylish. READ ON >>

November Deal of the Month: To be honest, it’s not something that I would normally wear, but I knew that it would add a certain element of femininity to any outfit. See, when you least expect it, you can find amazing deals. I wasn’t shopping for anything in particular, but I scored a beautiful accessory that cost less than the price of a bagel and small coffee. READ ON >>

July Deal of the Month: Don’t ask me why I decided to wait until the end of June to buy a pair of sunglasses, but I’m pretty weird like that. I guess it’s because I’m extremely picky when it comes to my sunglasses. I know that I can’t rock the aviator glasses á la Kanye West or anything that big (psst…Jackie O glasses are super hot this summer!), but I wanted something that was both trendy and functional. READ ON >>

May Deal of the Month: As straightforward as this may sound, I was having a huge problem tracking down my “must-have” purse. Some purses that I glimpsed at were way too gaudy, they had too much bling, or they were just a little too chi chi for me. READ ON >>

March Deal of the Month: I went to high-end stores and low-end stores, but none of these shops had boots in my size (I am a short girl with size 9 feet – go figure!?). I was even scolded by an evil sales lady after I asked if she could help me find a pair of winter boots. She replied, “Winter is almost done you know!” READ ON >>

January Deal of the Month: I stood in front of a set of three-way mirrors and tried on the coat. My first reaction was, “I actually look like a woman, and not a girl.” A few seconds later, a salesperson reassured me and told me that I looked great. It didn’t take long for me to reach into my wallet and pay for the coat. READ ON >>

November Vintage Vibe: One good thing about being a 70s blaxploitation character is that I had half of my outfit in my closet (I like to think of myself as a modern day blaxploitation actress). I bought an enormous Afro wig and fabulous fake eyelashes to complete the look. READ ON >>

August Vintage Vibe: We moved to the jewelry section. It had potential. I perused a huge selection of necklaces and bracelets in every colour imaginable. After untangling a million necklaces, I finally spotted a winner. READ ON >>

As with all my creative endeavours, my adventure began by visiting my fave store. I picked up an old, wooden, slightly damaged, nightstand for $7.99 that was perfect for my task at hand. READ ON >>

February Vintage Vibe: I don't think of myself as a clean freak by any means (my makeshift office can attest to that), but I do enjoy watching those TV programs that show you how to de-clutter from the mess that surrounds you. I too have fallen victim to converting my living space into a pigsty. READ ON >>

October Vintage Vibe: I'm totally diggin' the shift in fashion for the fall season. Feminine looks are plastered on the front covers of all the fashion mags. A classic, yet sexy look is so very in right now. Cardigans, flowery brooches, and wool skirts are the season's latest crazes. READ ON >>

June Vintage Vibe: Seeing as summertime is right around the corner, I felt that it was a good time to look for some fresh new accessories to brighten up my boring wardrobe. I was in the mood for something dramatic, yet understated, and also not very clunky.

June Dear Shopaholic: Purses are large, large, large – in case we didn’t already have enough back problems. In bags, the Hobo style (small and large) is popping up everywhere. So are totes in all shapes and sizes. But the big thing in both handbags and shoes is patent, which you can find in a variety of colours. READ ON >>

January Dear Shopaholic: Some of the worst dressed celebrities in my opinion are Britney Spears, Mariah Carey, and Paris Hilton. These are women who wear clothing that is too tight, unflattering, and leave nothing to the imagination. Their stylists should be ashamed. READ ON >>

November Dear Shopaholic: You can wear red gloves and a red scarf, but maybe you should consider chocolate brown, black, or charcoal grey for accents. All three colours would work beautifully paired with your red coat and they are easy colours to find in a scarf and gloves. The problem with all red is finding a scarf and a pair of gloves that are the same tone as your coat. READ ON >>

September Dear Shopaholic: A trick that I have found that works is wearing wide leg pants. When a pant drapes over your foot, it creates a wider silhouette and distracts from what is underneath the pant. As well, if you feel your feet are large stay, away from pointy toe shoes they will only elongate your feet. READ ON >>

June Dear Shopaholic: The whole cowboy look is really in right now, and believe it or not, fashion is about taking the trends that suit you and adding in a whole lot of your own personal style. There are several things that you can do to dress up your look. Cowboy boots with a sexy pair of jeans and a trendy top, like a lingerie top or a halter, is a great way to dress up your cowboy boots. READ ON >>

April Dear Shopaholic: The best way to dress for a trip is in clothes that are easy to move around in. Don’t buy a dress or skirt that is below your knee. By keeping the dress at or above your knee you can walk easily, and move freely – two really important qualities when you are traveling to a warm country. READ ON >>

March Dear Shopaholic: I find the look comes across as very old looking and incohesive. You can take that jean jacket and wear it with black pants, a cropped pant, chocolate brown pants, a skirt, but I would suggest you stay away from a pair of jeans unless it is its partner. READ ON >>

December Dear Shopaholic: Most guys get impatient when shopping and do not tend to look for something new; their philosophy is, “if it ain’t broke then don’t fix it.” If you want to stay casual but trendy you can always buy him a half zip cashmere sweater, a 3-button polo-style shirt in merino wool or a V-neck cable knit or plain sweater. READ ON >>

November Dear Shopaholic: Black with brown is a really sophisticated look. My only suggestion would be to keep it monochromatic underneath - introducing another colour will just complicate the outfit and lose the classic look you are trying to achieve. READ ON >>

September Dear Shopaholic: For the fall/winter 2005 season belts are huge once again and are being show in various ways. They are being done the traditional way in a belt loop of a pant, but the belt has a twist, a unique buckle or a coloured sequined belt on ribbon. READ ON >>

February Dear Shopaholic: The next step is to get some water-resistant pants. You don't have to invest in snowpants, such as the ones we all wore in grade school, but melting snow = wet pants, and you want to be as comfortable as possible. READ ON >>

October Dear Shopaholic: For work wear, I would suggest pieces that can be mixed and matched together. You could wear a tank top, but wear a cardigan or light blazer for some coverage. Also, I suggest investing in pieces that are classic to any wardrobe, like a good pair of black pants. READ ON >>

June Dear Shopaholic: Try surprising your boyfriend with a few items for the summer. Distressed jeans are so hot right now and are flattering on men and women. February Dear Shopaholic: Add beautiful tanned coloured boots to your wardrobe. Beige and chocolate brown are beautiful colours for the winter season. November Dear Shopaholic: You'll find dresses are not as extravagant as they were in the 90's. Even prom dresses are very simple these days. Many dresses are now just that, simple but elegant. Look for a dress that can be worn again to a party (not club). READ ON >>

July Dear Shopaholic: What's a gym? Ah, I just asked a random person on the street and they explained it to me. Nowadays, you don't have to look like a Flashdance extra to belong to a gym. READ ON >>

April Dear Shopaholic: I don't see a problem with wearing black but I'm not sure the church would approve of tight and low-cut clothing. Try covering up with a ¾ length blazer or sweater. READ ON >>

Beauty 411: I completely love the versatility of the shimmery light pink eye shadow. Actually, I like anything that has glitter in it. It makes your skin look radiant and fresh. I prefer wearing it as a base and pairing it with other colours to create a multitude of looks. In fact, a couple of my favourite eye shadows to pair it with are from another Cargo eye shadow collection – Nantucket. READ ON >>

Beauty 411: I’m given tons of samples, but after using this mascara, I have become the biggest devotee. I love that it makes my lashes thicker, luxuriant, and absolutely captivating. Emporio Armani White for Her: If there’s anyone that speaks confidence, it’s famed Italian designer Georgio Armani. His name is not only synonymous with elegant fashion design, but also chic and cosmopolitan fragrances. One of my all-time favourite scents, in fact, is Aqua di Gio, one of Armani’s signature perfumes. With this much clout, will White for Her be distinctive enough to stand out from the pack? READ ON >>

Beauty 411: I will say that I was a little nervous when I saw the mauve-ish hue of the lip gloss. I thought, me + purple lip gloss = hideous! Luckily, the lip gloss is a sheer mauve that goes on quite clear. It gave me a smidgen of colour but tons of shine – which I like. It’s like a taste of the 80s without looking like Cyndi Lauper! Best & Worst in 2007 Fashion: I don’t know about you, but I can’t wait for this trend to fade away. Liberating Fashion: In the 1800s, it was corsets and foot binding. In the 1950s, it was high heels in the kitchen. And in the 1970s, it was daisy dukes (come on, you can't tell me that something riding up your ass is actually comfortable). With each passing decade, there are more and more ways to make fashion akin to primitive torture. READ ON >>
