Beauty 411:
e.l.f. Cosmetics…

E.L.F. COSMETICS
e.l.f., which is an acronym for Eyes, Lips and Face, is a completely different cosmetics company. They believe that you don’t need to spend a million bucks to have high-quality products that are not only good for your skin, but will also enhance your beauty. e.l.f. creates cosmetic basics at a shockingly inexpensive price – one dollar! Seriously, everything is one dollar! (Accessories and tools cost more.)

Each product contains skin-improving elements such as anti-inflammatory hydrators and SPF protection. But it doesn’t stop there. Some of the products are lightly scented with a delicious, fruity aroma.

This company sounded a little too good to be true, so I let my curiosity get the better of me and I tried a couple of their products. Here’s what I have to say…

Shimmering Facial Whip in Citrus
Highlights cheeks, eyes and lips. Naturally illuminates for a dewy finish, soothes and conditions skin, and no sticky, greasy feel.

What I like about this company is the versatility of their makeup. A product can easily be applied to various parts of your face. This is evident with their Shimmering Facial Whip.

The consistency is comparable to that of a liquid eye shadow; however, it can be used on your cheeks, eyes or lips to add a splash of colour.

It comes in a cute little tube and it takes little to no effort to apply. All you have to do is squirt out the smallest amount to your finger and smear it anywhere on your face. It spreads pretty easily, and it’s not as messy as you might think.

I tried it on my cheeks but it was a little too light for my complexion so I dabbed some on my eyelids. When it oozed out of the tube, it was the colour of a pale pink cotton candy, but on my eyes it had a silvery undertone. It completely opened my eyes and made them glimmer. I usually stick to wearing neutrals, but this futuristic silvery hue was a welcome change.

Soothing Lip Gloss in Mauve Luxe
Calms, conditions, shines. On contact, calms and soothes lips, conditions and helps protect against dryness, and intense shine, never sticky.

This tiny product’s claim to fame is that it calms, conditions and puts shine on your lips, but what scored major points with me was that it didn’t come out all goopy or sticky. Some lip glosses are way too thick and clumpy that they make a mess all over the lip brush. This lip gloss glided on smoothly and didn’t leave excess all over the cap.

In the tube, the colour looked brownish pink with some flecks of gold, but on my lips, it gave me a healthy rosy glow. It wasn’t a garish-looking red, but provided just enough pop to create a fun, sexy pucker. Friends have been asking me for years to put some colour on my lips, and I think that I finally found the perfect shade!

For a fresh flirty look, all I need is some mascara and this lip gloss.

Natural Radiance Blusher in Coy
Exquisite, delicate, pigment payoff that makes cheeks radiant combined with a healthy-looking glow. Infused with texturizing agents, skin feels smooth and pores are minimized.

I’m not the biggest fan of blush. I try my hardest to avoid using it. Hence, that is why my friends plead with me to put some colour in my face!

I tried this blush, but like the Facial Whip, it wasn’t very noticeable on my cheeks. Since e.l.f. creates products that have multi-functions, I thought that I could use the blusher as an eye shadow.

I swept it across my lids and it looked as though it was meant to be there! The gold and pink tones worked well with my skin tone and created a natural, yet polished, face.

Shine Eraser Blotting Sheets
These amazing little sheets instantly absorb oil, minimize pores and mattify shiny skin. Woven texture eradicates shine and keeps skin matte for hours. Green Tea Extract helps re-texturize skin, masking facial imperfections. Travel pack fits neatly in purse for on-the-go touch-ups.

I don’t really have oily skin, but once in a while I’ll eat something greasy and the oil will be deposited all over my face. Not pretty! Luckily I was given some blotting sheets from elf cosmetics, which helped to combat my potentially oily face.

The blotting sheets have a woven texture that resembles fine decorative paper. It’s almost too pretty to use on your face! They are thin and measure about 2 ½ inches long and 3 ½ inches wide.

I brought the Shine Eraser Blotting Sheets to work so that I could get some feedback from my co-workers. Before I gave them a few sheets, I tested it on myself on a day when my face was exceptionally oily.

I used it on my trouble zones – my forehead and chin. The result: It worked well on my skin. The fancy-looking paper soaked up the oils on my face and I was left with a shine-free face. I used two sheets to get my face looking matte and refreshed.

My co-workers raved over the blotting sheets as well. I actually had to promise to give one of my co-workers a few of the sheets to use later.

Even though the price for these items are very cheap, you will definitely get your money’s worth by the flexibility and user-friendly nature of the products. ¤ Michelle
