Vintage Vibe:
Retrofy your room...

CALCULATE THIS!
Whenever I go shopping at vintage stores, my first thought is to get a new jacket, a retro purse or some vintage jewelry. I didn't realize that I was totally missing out on the cool accessories that they have to decorate your room, apartment, or house.

Since it is the beginning of a new year, I felt it was time to spruce up my room. My computer and some scattered past due bill statements are the only things in my room that would give anyone some indication that I lived there.

Here are a few things that I bought to give my room that lived in look:

Glass Vase
Glassware is huge in secondhand stores, and luckily, very affordable. There is an abundance of vases and glasses to choose from. I purchased this medium sized cylinder-like glass vase for just $1.49! I bought some marbles and some bamboo plants (at another store) and created a very Zen-like arrangement.

Silver Candleholder
I still can't believe that I was actually going to pass this up. I was sure that someone already looked at it and put it down for a quick second. I waited…and waited and no one came to claim it. I laughed to myself and scooped it up. I inspected it to see why it wasn't in someone's cart. And thankfully, it had no flaws.

It is a beautiful brushed aluminum candleholder that has a very ultra modern look. It is perfect for tea light candles or votive candles. The cost was $1.99.

Faux Marble Tray
Damn, I got really lucky with this item as well. I knew that I could see it in my room, even though I had no idea what to do with it.

If the candleholder was very modern, this item was a throwback to the psychedelic sixties and seventies. The faux marble effect creates a very sleek retro look, but without the tacky feel of the seventies. The use of black, white and grey give it a very minimalist look, which I love.

Even though you can place your jewelry or business cards on this tray, I chose to leave it empty, as looks like a piece of art. The cost of this shagadelic tray - $2.99.

On your next visit to your favourite second hand store, take a look at the houseware section instead of heading straight for the clothing racks. They have plenty of items that you can use to create a cozy, yet funky space.

Have fun shopping! ¤ Michelle
