What's Hot:
Spring is light and fresh and full of colour…

With another unforgettable fall season behind us, we look to the spring season and the new and upcoming spring collections. When most think of spring they think of colour, and after a very dark fall season the spring is definitely upon us, but in an understated way. Designers are bringing back the neutrals, light creams and greys, with lots of white, khaki, beige, brown, and tan. For a little more colour, you will see pale purples, coral, yellow, blues, and pinks, which will help lift the spring spirit.

In contemporary fashion you’ll see a lot of navy and white. And very much like last season, black is back and bigger then ever. Designers like Oscar de la Renta are showing very sleek and polished fashions with beautiful floral patterned dresses, structured jackets, and balloon style skirts. Printed fabrics are definitely the stars of the season but they are not all bright and colourful, as black and white graphic prints are showing up in the marketplace.

If you were to view any designer’s collection you would see a common theme among the designers: volume. There is volume in the skirts, a return to the “balloon” look of fall; volume in the sleeves; and most noticeably in their dresses. It’s a real feminine look – contrast this to the masculine-inspired suits from fall/winter ‘06, and there is no better time than spring/summer to dress and feel like a woman.

The straight leg jean and pant are back. Whether you are already rockin’ this trend or are staying clear and have opted for a more wearable style, the straight leg is definitely making an appearance this season. However, after a sneak peek at fall/winter ’07, I can tell you that the skinny jean is out and the trouser and boot cut jeans are where it’s at!

In addition to the straight leg pant, the cargo trend has a very strong influence on the spring season. Pants, skirts, capris, and dresses with large pocket details are being shown on the runways of several major designers. As well there’s a return to the wedge heel, being shown in an espadrille, ankle strap, or just a simple sandal, so pull your shoes out from last season and enjoy them once again.

With the trends of the season bringing colour and texture to the front stage, take the time to enjoy the spring-summer season and step outside of your comfort zone. Try feminine prints and dresses, experiment with colour, or simply venture out and find your new favourite pair of summer shoes. ¤ Erin
