Deal of the Month:
Frugal fashionistas find funky coats…
If you need to know one thing about Canada, you need to know that Canadian winters are brutal! They are very cold and they last forever. However, I would like to take this moment to dispel a very popular belief about life in Canada. Neither I, nor anyone that I know, lives in an igloo. It’s cold, but not that cold!
Luckily, our winter has been mild so far, but being a Canadian grrl, I know that it will eventually dip to temperatures way below zero. When the nasty weather rears its ugly head, I want to be ready with a nice, warm coat.
When I wore my trusty winter coat (I’ve had it for over three years now) to work in the beginning of December, I knew that I would inevitably have to get a new one. It was starting to look a little tattered and outdated, and it didn’t really project the professional image that I wanted. Instead, I looked more like an overgrown schoolgirl trying to make it to class on time. Thus, my hunt for the perfect coat was on.
Let me tell you, my hunt was not easy! I visited all the major department stores, and I even went to stores that I haven’t even heard of. After unsuccessfully looking for a few weeks, I had no choice but to take in some Boxing Day sales.
I decided to go to a nearby mall to do my Boxing Day shopping. I tried on practically all of the coats in the very first store that I walked into. They were having a door crasher special, and I desperately wanted to find something (the prices were cheap!). As luck would have it, all of the coats that I tried on were either too big or too small, too long or too short. Frustrated and a little tired, I left the store and browsed in a couple more shops. None of the coats jumped out at me. They all seemed boring and old-ladyish. Dripping in sweat from bumping into the millions of shoppers in the mall, I trekked back to Fairweather – the very first store that I went into – and tried on some more coats. I wanted to take another look to see if I missed anything.
I was immediately drawn to a black and beige coat, which looked funkier than anything that I’ve ever owned (most of my winter coats were black and drab looking). I stood in front of a set of three-way mirrors and tried on the coat. My first reaction was, “I actually look like a woman, and not a girl.” A few seconds later, a salesperson reassured me and told me that I looked great. It didn’t take long for me to reach into my wallet and pay for the coat.
My deal of the month is a beige and black belted, ¾-length lined wool coat. It cinches in at the waist, which creates a sexy hourglass figure. I like that the coat skims my knees – which is a perfect length for someone my height. The price for this stunner: a mere $50.00!
Being that it was so inexpensive, I was a little fearful that it would just look pretty and not keep me warm. I decided that I would wear it on a blistery winter day and see how it fared.
I wore it on my first day back to work after the Christmas vacation. It was a cold day and I was praying that it would keep me warm. I gingerly stepped outside and let the cold Canadian air hit me. I walked for about a block to see how I felt. Luckily, it kept me warm.
I’ve had this coat for about a month, and I have never felt cold. This was the best $50.00 that I’ve ever spent! ¤ Michelle
