Fall fashion forecast…
As another summer is upon us, designers and trendsetters are already looking ahead to the fall 2005 season. This season is shaping up to be an eclectic one, with a mix of masculine and feminine influences. The colour black is alive and well this season and can be found everywhere.
Sorry PETA: designers McQueen, Cavalli and Mara have all presented a fur fantasy in their fall lines.
However, the keyword for fall is luxury: in fabrics, colours and styles.
The colour palates ring true to fall with rich tones such as chocolate brown, a warm forest and moss green mixed with vibrant colours like, red, orange, purple, and a crisp white. While classic designers like Lagerfeld for Chanel and Marc Jacobs for Louis Vuitton are still using black as their base, the clothing is embellished with silver and gold metallic, maintaining last season's jump into metallic tones.
While the colours are vibrant and fun, the true staple of this season's clothing are the fabrics. Designers like Ralph Lauren are using textured fabrics such as tweed and herringbone, inspired by classic Hollywood actresses like Katharine Hepburn. Dolce and Gabbana are dominating the runway with fur jackets and skirts, studs, or simply fur trim on jacket collars. Sweaters are being re-introduced and worn as outerwear with a jewel tone broach, a thick belt, or as a layering piece under a suit jacket.
Suit jackets remain tailored and shorter for the fall season but have a strong brown or eggplant base embellished with a bright orangey red, metallic, or purple undertone. The shorter jacket is also being shown in a heavier cashmere blend fabric, with button detail, that doubles as an outer piece but can also be worn as a suit jacket in a bright colour paired with a herringbone pencil skirt.
Stay warm this fall: designers Prada, McQueen, Fendi, and Missoni support the cozy and sexy look of a belted knit.
The masculine style tailored suit remains an essential addition in women's fashion, but is made feminine by the addition of a large belt on the jacket, a colourful pinstripe, or a crisp white blouse.
So the question is, then, how do you incorporate this season's trends into your wardrobe?
Fall is my favourite season and while the weather remains snow-free we should embrace it by adding some of the new colours into our wardrobe. But you do not need to break the bank in order to do so. Add a crisp white turtleneck under a black or brown suit jacket with your jeans. Pick up a pencil skirt in this season's fabric and maybe a thick belt to jazz up your favourite plain sweater. Or if you are simply looking for a colour update, purchase chocolate brown pants, a vibrant green blouse with your favourite pumps and you are ready to go.
Just remember that with fashion there are no rules. Have fun with your wardrobe and add pieces that you feel good in and love to wear. ¤ Erin
