Deal of the Month:
Accessories to spice up your outfit…
I seem to be doing more shopping now since the weather has gotten better. I just happen to my find myself hopping from one air-conditioned store to the next looking for great bargains. Thus, it wasn’t difficult to come up with a list of items for this column. Here are a few of my latest deals.Sunglasses
Don’t ask me why I decided to wait until the end of June to buy a pair of sunglasses, but I’m pretty weird like that. I guess it’s because I’m extremely picky when it comes to my sunglasses. I know that I can’t rock the aviator glasses á la Kanye West or anything that big (psst…Jackie O glasses are super hot this summer!), but I wanted something that was both trendy and functional.
My face is oval, so wearing anything too big would make my face look as though it was being swallowed up by the glasses. I decided to go for an “in-between” size so that my eyewear wouldn’t be so overwhelming on my face.
I found the most esthetically pleasing pair of sunglasses at Smart Set. My spectacles of choice are black, medium-sized, and have red tinted lenses. I like that they are boxy rather than the ultra round glasses that are the rage. They are cute, stylish and were on sale for only $5.99 (regular price: $10.00). Big up to your grrl!
Necklace
In my recommend, I wrote that I wanted to start making my own jewelry. I do plan on making a bunch of necklaces for myself and my friends, but I had to make one last purchase before I become a world famous jeweler.
While I was running a few errands on the weekend, I noticed that the Smart Set store in my neighbourhood mall was closing (I found myself back at this store – different location). There was an unbelievable amount of women pushing and shoving trying to score the latest deals, perhaps because everything was half price! I pushed my way through and browsed through the clothes. Most of the items seemed to be picked over, so I made my way over to the accessory section. Again, there wasn’t much to choose from, except for a stunning necklace that seemed to call my name.
It is a teal blue, disk-shaped necklace that is bold enough to make any outfit pop. It would look fantastic worn with a white tank or anything brown. I looked at the price tag and it read $15.00. An extremely bubbly salesperson came over to me and reminded me that the necklace was half off and I would only be paying $7.50. You know your grrl couldn’t pass it up.
I love this necklace! It has become my go-to necklace whenever I want to add some drama to an outfit.
The Sparkly Ring
Okay, this purchase was completely frivolous. I didn’t need it, but it looked so cute in the store, I just had to have it.
On my routine lunchtime walk, I strolled into an incredibly unassuming accessory store called Jenny’s Place (2616 Yonge Street, Toronto). It’s the type of store that piles millions of moderately priced items onto each other, and you really have to dig deep in order to find a gem.
I was actually perusing for a gold/bronze tone bag for work, but it was an eye-catching sparkly ring that had me hypnotized. It is a clear plastic ring with a bazillion cubic zirconias on top. It leans towards being juvenile, but becomes more upscale when accompanied with other silver accoutrements.
I slipped the ring on my finger and I was sold. The cost: $2.99.
See, a big statement can be made with a simple accessory. I’m already planning to go back to the store and buy some for friends.
Like I always say, you don’t need to plop down a lot of money to look great. If you have the time and patience to look around, I am sure that you will find some good deals. Happy shopping! ¤ Michelle
