Deal of the Month:
Spring updates at a fraction of the cost…

Business Casual
Doesn’t it feel good to know that warm weather is finally upon us? We’ve experienced a brutally long winter and it’s time to celebrate the spring season by purchasing a few choice pieces.

Although the temperature outside is perfect for shedding those extra layers of clothing, the temperature indoors (in my office in particular) tends to drop during the warmer months. I can’t possibly fathom wearing thick sweaters to work (it’s May already!!), but I need to buy something that is work appropriate, will keep me warm but still reflect the sunny season ahead!

After being schooled by a very trendy fashionista, I found out that the cropped jacket was resurfacing as an ultra sexy garment. You’re able to wear it with dress pants for work or pair it with a nice pair of jeans for a night out.

Choosing not to travel all the way downtown to look for this trend of the season, I chose to try my luck at my neighbourhood Wal-Mart. I bumped into tons of other ladies getting their cheap chic shopping on, but I did manage to spot a black ¾ sleeve jacket, which looked very suitable to wear at my office. It wasn’t terribly trendy, but I knew that I could make it hot with bold accessories.

Upon a closer look, I noticed that it was very similar to a cape jacket that I recently saw featured on a fashion blog. I tried it on and fell in love with it and the price. This 50’s inspired flared cropped jacket was only $25.00. I didn’t even have to think about it, I picked it up and ran to the checkout.

A Pop of Colour
If you look through my closest, you’ll see a recurring theme – I own a lot of black clothing (ahem, read the above article!). It’s sadly my favourite colour (okay, it’s not technically a colour, but you know what I mean!). It looks good with anything and yes…it’s my safety blanket. I’m way too timid to wear vibrant colours like pink, orange and yellow (which, by the way, are the colours of this spring/summer), so I gravitate to black.

I started 2008 declaring that I wanted to make some changes in my life and take more risks. I decided to take that same philosophy and apply it to my shopping habits.

About a month ago I was in desperate need of some new shoes. I’ve grown tired of the knee-high boots that I wore all winter long, and I was looking for something that is work appropriate and stylish.

I originally wanted to buy something at Aldo (I have a gift card that I am dying to use!), but I thought that I would give Payless Shoes a try first. I perused the multitude of shoes stocked high on the shelves. I saw strappy sandals, funky running shoes and a plethora of ballerina slippers. Unfortunately, I found nothing that piqued my interest. Then. I saw it. A cute cherry red patent leather pair of kitten heel shoes. I’m not a fan of red, but I thought that I should try something that I wouldn’t normally buy. Also, the shoes looked sexy!!

Being the conservative colour-phobe grrl that I am, once I tried on the shoes I immediately put them back in the box and marched out of the store. I thought the colour was a bit too daring for me. (Yes, I am a punk!)

Weeks later I returned to another Payless location and saw that the red shoes I was so afraid of purchasing were sitting peacefully in a box. I grabbed the box, slipped the shoes on and debated for practically ten minutes if it was possible for me to wear such a vibrant hue. I walked around the store looking in every mirror. After annoying all of the shoppers and the sales staff, I decided to get the shoes. They looked too hot and were ridiculously too cheap to pass up.

This eye-catching pair of shoes were normally priced at $32.99, but I got them on sale for $24.99.

I have since worn these shoes to work and almost all my female co-workers have asked me to take them shopping!! ¤ Michelle
