Beauty 411:
My favourite things – remix…
A couple years back I wrote about an assortment of beauty products that I simply could not live without. I shared with readers all of my fave items that helped me feel, sexy, glamorous and fierce!
PSST!
It has been some time since I compiled that list, and over the years I have discovered a bunch of other products that have replaced my old mainstays. There is still a place in my heart for my past must-haves, but I need to make room in my makeup case for my new obsessions.
Enjoy my new updated list. ¤ Michelle
For EYES
I originally spoke about how Maybelline Great Lash mascara was my most cherished beauty item in my makeup case. It is inexpensive, it’s easy to apply and it got the job done. That still remains true, but I have since discovered a couple other mascaras that are just as amazing.
Lancôme Definicil High Definition Mascara
I’m given tons of samples, but after using this mascara, I have become the biggest devotee. I love that it makes my lashes thicker, luxuriant, and absolutely captivating. I can see the difference by simply batting my eyes. I still use Maybelline every day, but I use Lancôme Definicil when I feel that it’s time to bring sexy back!
Clinique High Impact Mascara
I had to give a shout-out to this mascara as well. It’s just as fabulous as the Lancôme mascara. I don’t even feel the need to apply eye shadow when I wear this product. It lengthens and strengthens my lashes and brings the focus to my eyes. I love it!Eye Shadow
M.A.C Cosmetics Eye Shadow: Honesty
I’ve been faithfully wearing this gold/pinky shimmery eye shadow for the past three years (believe it or not, I wear it in all seasons!). It gives my eyes a nice sparkly radiance and complements my skin tone beautifully. I can either wear it alone, or I can mix it with other colours for that extra punch. Lately, I’ve started wearing it with a charcoal eye shadow so that I can rock that smoky eye (psst…it took many hours of practice, but I think I’ve finally mastered this look!). Thanks for the makeup lesson, Francine! For LIPS
M.A.C Cosmetics Lipglass: Oh Baby, Beaux, Sinnamon
To tell you the truth, it’s all about M.A.C lipwear. I’ve been practically wearing it all my life and I find it extremely difficult to stray. I’m always guaranteed great colour, great coverage — basically, I’m guaranteed a great product! My favorite shades are: Oh Baby, Sinnamon, and Beaux. For BODY
Nivea Smooth Replenishing Lotion
I’ve written about a bazillion body lotions over the past five years, and most of them were very good (Palmers Cocoa Butter is still a must item for me!). But…it was the sample of Nivea Smooth Replenishing Lotion that I ripped out from a fashion magazine that got me hooked! This is probably one of the few body lotions that are specifically designed for people with dry skin that actually supplies ample hydration! Many promise, but rarely do they deliver.
What I found incredibly impressive is that my skin is moisturized for hours on end. This is such a bonus for me. Having dry skin, I am always reapplying lotion to my trouble spots (hands, arms, legs). When I use this fab product, I don’t need to reapply. For anyone who suffers with dry skin, you really need to stock up your boudoir with this product!
Bath Products
L’Occitane Foaming Bath Milk
Oooohh, this is so spectacular! I love watching this powder turn to a sea of milk when you add it to your bath. It’s seriously like swimming in a frothy vanilla milkshake.L’Occitane products ain’t cheap (mind you, it’s not as expensive as other brands), but honestly, this item is worth every penny of its price. The bath is so relaxing and soothing; it can seriously put you to sleep. This is the best item to pamper yourself with. Buy it!
Dove Cream Oil Body Wash, jasmine and vanilla scent
Okay, if you didn’t want to spend all your dough on a lavish bath product, why not try something that is affordable and just as spa-worthy?I love shower gels and I completely love trying new products. As I was strolling down the beauty aisle in my neighbourhood superstore, I decided that I really wanted to try something new. I just about spent an hour smelling each and every shower gel. I came across the Dove line and noticed that they just released a few new scents. I smelled them all, but fell head over heels with the jasmine and vanilla scent cream oil body wash.
It is a thick, creamy body wash that coats your entire body. The scent is clean and fresh and thankfully doesn’t smell too sweet. This made my skin feel smooth and ready to be caressed!
For PERFUME
Still, J. Lo
I mentioned in my first fave list that Dolce & Gabbana Light Blue was my new signature scent. It is distinctive, commanding and smells wonderful. I still wear it on occasion, but I’ve moved on to J. Lo’s perfume, Still.I never thought that I would wear a fragrance from Ms. Lopez (celeb perfumes usually never work), but this fragrance is fresh, light and smells like a bouquet of flowers. I absolutely adore this perfume. Since I started wearing it a year ago, I’ve already bought three bottles. Yes, I really, really like this perfume.
For HAIR
Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Pak
For the natural sistas out there that have dry hair, like myself, I found the best conditioner. A couple of months ago, I noticed the effects of over processing my hair. It was dry and I was suffering from some breakage. Being a little concerned (…a lot concerned!) about the condition of my hair, I was in desperate need of something that would nurse my hair back to health. A friend suggested that I try Organic Root Stimulator Olive Oil Replenishing Pak. I took her advice and bought a trial size of the conditioner (I’ve had sooo many problems finding the right hair product, I didn’t want to take any chances). After I shampooed my hair, I applied generous amounts of the conditioner to my hair. It has an orangey, citrus smell that works in easy. While combing my hair, I could tell that it made my hair manageable and very soft. It scored high with me as it reduced the dryness and made my hair look and feel better. I still have love for my original must-have conditioner from Aveda (Cherry Almond Bark), but this is a great conditioner that only costs a fraction of the price.
