Retro Halloween
Even though Halloween '05 is a thing of the past, my latest Vintage Vibe find was originally purchased to wear for Halloween.

I needed a costume to wear at my job, so Christine kindly suggested that I dress up as a 70s blaxploitation character (think Cleopatra Jones or Foxy Brown [I suggested it because I knew you'd rock it! - Christine]). I work in an ESL school, and I was encouraged/forced to dress up so that the students would feel comfortable wearing costumes.

This year, I was determined to put more effort into my costume than I did last year. Last Halloween my costume consisted of me wearing a black dress and a colourful scarf on my head. Just in case you couldn't figure out what I was…I was a fortuneteller. Yes, I know my costume sucked!

One good thing about being a 70s blaxploitation character is that I had half of my outfit in my closet (*I like to think of myself as a modern day blaxploitation actress). I already owned a short black skirt, knee-high boots and a pimpish leather jacket. I bought an enormous Afro wig and fabulous fake eyelashes to complete the look. The one thing that was missing was a funky top.

For some odd reason, it took me forever to find the right top. Some were too tight, not funky enough, and some were just butt ugly!

And then, my prayers were answered. I went to a downtown thrift shop after work one day, and I found a top that was a perfect example of sexy 70s chic.

It was a lipstick-red short-sleeved top with tiny white polka dots. What did it for me was the ruffled collar. Very sexy! The cost: $2.99.

This top is way too cool to just wear one day of the year, I already planned to wear it with a pair of dark jeans and heels.

A Vintage Blast From The Past
I know that I always say that I like to clean out my closet and get rid of stuff that I am not using, but I have noticed that I still possess many items that I've long forgotten about.

While doing some cleaning not too long ago, I came across the most beautiful chocolate brown leather bag.

It is in mint condition and looks brand new. It is a messenger-style bag that has two front pockets and one teeny pocket inside.

I bought this bag over five years ago, but I still remember how much I paid for it. The reason that I recall the price is that I remember wrestling my friend to the ground to see who would own the stylish bag. I won! The cost of the bag: $7.99.

Since recently discovering this bag, it has become my favourite bag to wear to work. It is portable enough to put all my junk in, and I don't have the pain from carrying a heavy load on my shoulders. See, it pays to do some cleaning!

Have fun shopping! ¤ Michelle
