Celebrities are always shown wearing their Christian Louboutin platform peep-toes with skinny jeans. My question is, is it OK to wear my Steve Madden platform peep-toes with boot cut jeans?

To answer your question, it is absolutely all right that you wear your Steve Madden platforms with boot cut jeans. The problem with the skinny jean trend is that most women cannot wear skinny jeans, so boot cut or wider leg jeans are a great alternative.Dear Shopaholic,
I have a new red jacket that I simply adore. It’s a ¾-length, belted wool overcoat. However, I don’t know how to accessorize this when winter hits. Would it be too much to wear red gloves or a red scarf or a red hat? Should I go with a neutral colour like beige? Help!

You can accessorize your red coat a lot of different ways. You can wear red gloves and a red scarf, but maybe you should consider chocolate brown, black, or charcoal grey for accents. All three colours would work beautifully paired with your red coat and they are easy colours to find in a scarf and gloves. The problem with all red is finding a scarf and a pair of gloves that are the same tone as your coat. So go with my suggested colours and your red coat will really pop.

I love the tapered pants look, but I can’t figure out what kind of shoes I can wear with this, especially in the winter. Currently, I’m using my trusty high-heeled boots, but I find that the leg can sometimes bunch at the bottom, which annoys me to no end. Any suggestions?

The whole look behind the tapered pant is to wear it tucked in with a slouched boot, whether that is a dressy leather or suede boot. If you are looking for a shoe to wear with your tapered pant, then go with a closed toe shoe with a high stacked heel. I’m wondering if it is OK to wear a dark brown casual belt with light colored blue jeans and black/gray Nike tennis shoes. Can I wear black/gray tennis shoes with a brown belt?

It is totally fine to wear a dark brown belt with your light coloured blue jeans, but your black/gray tennis shoes would not be the best colour match. I would go with a brown shoe so that it will pick up on your brown belt. The idea of wearing an accessory like a belt is to change the look of an outfit and you should think of your shoes as an extension of that.Dear Shopaholic,
I’m a mom of two and don’t look like my skinny pre-children self anymore. I can no longer wear a bikini! I’ve seen so many cute bathing suits out there, but can’t find one that has all the qualities I’m looking for. Shopping for the right swimsuit is more difficult than finding the right man! For instance, I’ll see something that I like but would prefer it with a belt, or with a “camouflaging” bow. Any ideas where I can find accessories like that for bathing suits? And is it “fashionably” correct to add something extra to your bathing suit. Short of designing myself a swimsuit and having it made to my specifications, is there anything I can do?

When it comes to bathing suits I completely understand your frustration with finding the “perfect” swimsuit. First off, you need to go to a store that specializes in bathing suits. So many suits these days have rouching and draping over the tummy, or a built-in belt, or proper bra supports, or claim to take ten pounds off instantly. If you are going to add something to your swimsuit, let it be a great cover-up in a gorgeous colour or a printed fabric. I would not suggest you add a bow or a belt to your swimsuit – it will just look like you stuck something on that doesn’t belong on your swimsuit. ¤ Erin
