I'm totally diggin' the shift in fashion for the fall season. Feminine looks are plastered on the front covers of all the fashion mags. Like Phan stated in her What's Hot column, a classic, yet sexy look is so very in right now. Cardigans, flowery brooches, and wool skirts are the season's latest crazes.

Okay, some of the looks are reminiscent of the cranky, old librarian from your high school, but if you add a few pieces to this rather chaste look, you can vamp up your outfit, instead of looking like a frumpy old lady.

Always one to jump on the latest fad, I decided to go on the hunt for anything that looked like it was en vogue circa 1955. I visited a few vintage stops, but I wasn't able to find exactly what I was looking for. I came home and started to sift through my growing wardrobe. I came across a wool skirt that I bought at Value Village two years ago for a whopping $5.99 (see, it is possible to purchase investment pieces at a secondhand store).

It is a slightly below the knee, gray and beige skirt, with a slit in the middle. Equal parts classy and sexy!

In this picture (main), I have paired it with a black cardigan with a white flower brooch, and a black handbag. (Please not that the cardigan and handbag were not purchased at Value Village.)

Even though I look to secondhand stores for very trendy, "in-today-out-tomorrow" clothing, I was able to buy a great piece that I will have for years to come.

On the complete flipside to the girly look that I achieved with the first item, my latest purchase reflects my relaxed, more old skool vibe.

I was originally looking for a leather jacket, but when I set my eyes on this suede jacket (inset), I knew that I would be rocking it soon enough.

Don't you just love how the orange colour mixes with the brown trim? The Nehru-style collar screams of funkier days. The cost of this throwback-gem: $7.99.

Have I convinced you that shopping at secondhand stores is inexpensive and an easy way to look fashion-forward? I hope so.

After consulting the latest fashion magazine for the latest must-haves, check out a vintage shop and see how you can look great without breaking the bank.

Happy hunting! ¤ Michelle
