Signatures 2002:
George Brown's annual fashion show...

A taste of tomorrow's trend setters were showcased at George Brown's annual fashion show, Signatures 2002. Designs from the first- and second-year Fashion Technology & Design program graced the runways on Thursday, April 25, 2002. This was an opportunity for the audience to glimpse at the upcoming styles of creative and inspirational students, and an opportunity for the students to experience different aspects of the fashion industry.

My mom actually talked me into going to this event because a close family friend's daughter, Ginger Vi, was presenting as well as modeling her designs. So I decided to escort my mom to the fashion show.

Ginger Vi has been studying at George Brown for two years. I was eager to see her designs because of all the rave reviews I heard from my mom. Plus, she had put together a glamourous prom dress for my sister during her first year of studies.

After work, I grabbed some flowers for Ginger before meeting up with my mom. We arrived at Convocation Hall and the place was packed. Thank goodness our friends saved us some seats. They were not the best seats in the house, but at least they were first balcony, centre.

As the show began, I was amazed at the first pieces that came out onto the stage. The bright colours and designs were screaming, "Spring!" I have to say that this was a very incredible night. Wow! I may well be seeing some of these students on "Fashion Television" in a few years. All the styles had their own edge. Designs ranged from the conservative to sexy to punk to couture.

In the latter half of the show, Ginger appeared in several outfits for other designers. She played the role of a model very well. She looked and acted like a natural as she strutted her stuff across the stage. Soon after, her designs appeared in shades of burgundy. Her pieces were trendy and wearable, a good combination. She definitely is a promising designer, and was the award recipient of the Tonic Nightclub Streetwear that night. As Ginger's sister cried out during the show, "You go, girl!" ¤ Phan
