Summer Make-Up:
Skin is in...
HOT TIPS
- Combat oily skin: Try oil-free foundation or tinted moisturizer for a more matte look. Use powder (light and sheer) for T-zone touch ups. Instead of foundation, try tinted moisturizers or sunless tanners. Go one shade darker depending on your tan. Finish with a bronzer on sun-kissed spots.
- Combat sunburnt skin: Always use sunscreen, and don't forget to apply to mostly-overlooked areas like eyelids, ears and neck. Sunscreen should be applied before moisturizer for maximum protection. Also use SPF on lips. If you burn, use lots of cream for hydration. A good bronzer, instead of foundation, will mask the burn by making the colour more golden.
- Combat runny make-up: Waterproof is your best bet. Try powder blush/bronzer, sunless tanner, powder blush, waterproof mascara, cream shadow and ligloss.
- Combat breakouts: Always keep face clean and drink plenty of water. Try oil-free moisturizers. Use a blemish cover stick to hide pimples, and top with sheer powder. Note: Certain products labeled "oil-free," "water-based," and "hypoallergenic" may still contribute to the formation of acne. Always look for "non-comedogenic," "non-acnegenic," or "non-pore clogging." Products to try: MAC, Lancome, Clinique, and Estée Lauder.
Less is More:
The hottest look for summer is back to basics. Ditch the reds, browns and purples for pinks and browns. Shiny (but not oily) and shimmery make-up is a perfect complement to your little summer dress and strappy sandals. Hair is natural and wind-swept. Head to your nearest make-up counter (I highly recommend MAC) to see which shades are best for you.On face:
Sheer foundation and sheer blush for a natural, fresh complexion. Don't have the sheer foundation? You can mix your existing foundation with moisturizer to lighten the look.On lips:
Sheer pink is the hottest shade right now. Top with lip-gloss for added effect. Skip the lip liner. If pink is not for you, try a darker colour in the middle of your lips, and mix with lip-gloss for a lighter, shinier colour. On eyes:
Liquid and stick eye shadows have staying power and a gentler look. Colours are natural browns and tans. Try smudging the eye shadow for a softer look.On nails:
Pink (or any pale colour) will do. For a more classic look, go for French manicures. ¤ C.Ho.Recommends:
