Happygrrls' How-To:
Use feng shui to your advantage...
Using Feng Shui At Home
So enough of the spiritual mumbo-jumbo. How does this apply to your own living space? Read on for some tips on how to maximize what you've got.The living room should be comfortable, cheerful, and reflect the personality of its homeowner. The space should be regular in shape (square or rectangular is preferred) and have plenty of natural sunlight. Use soft, rounded couches and chairs (rounded objects represent money) with high backs (to symbolize the support of the family). Put your stereo on the west wall to bring luck.
The kitchen is a symbol of family wealth. Specifically, you should be concentrating on the position of the stove. Do not place it opposite a sink or fridge because there will be a clash of fire and water elements. Also, it cannot face the front door, bathroom door, master bedroom door, staircase, bed, or corner, and a person should be able to see the entrance from its position. It should be clean and have lots of space around it to favour of family finances.
The dining room should be close to the kitchen, in a corner of the home to encourage the pooling of the ch'i. Use a round table made of wood or metal. Avoid glass or marble. Lots of mirrors will give the impression of more food, which means prosperity.
The bathroom should not be in the wealth, fame or career corners, and should not be visible from the front door. And guys, keep the toilet seat down to keep unnecessary ch'i from being flushed away.
In the bedroom, the most important thing is that the bed does not directly face the door or mirror. In the Chinese culture, coffins are lined up this way and this is regarded as the "death" position. Place the bed diagonally opposite the door. From this vantage point, you can see who is entering the room and you will be able to receive the ch'i as it enters the room. The headboard should not touch the wall, but part of the bed should be touching the wall. The master bedroom should be as far from the front door as possible because this is the most secure position in the house. Choose colours that compliment your personal element: woods are blue, fires are green, earths are red, metals are yellow, and waters are white.
Using Feng Shui for Wealth
Place your desk facing the sheng ch'i direction. Tape three coins to important files or documents to ensure that your cash flow stays healthy. For protection, place a large picture of a mountain behind you, but make sure that there is no water in the picture (remember, water carries ch'i away) and that the mountain is round (remember, round is good for money). And if you have extra room, place a large picture of a financial institution behind you. That way, the bank is literally behind you all the way.
You may also place Fu dogs at on either side of the entrance to guard against being cheated.
Using Feng Shui for Love
Your relationship corner is located at the back of your house, in the farthest right-hand corner. This is the area you want to concentrate on.Reds and pinks represent love, and for an added touch, place two red or pink candles side by side to symbolize you and your lover. Use round mirrors to reflect sexual energy. Rose quartz is the known as the "love" crystal, so if you want lots of lovin', you'll also want lots of quartz. If you've just gotten out of a relationship, clean your space to purify it.
Avoid negative images, and anything that encourages distance (i.e. a cactus tree). Ditto anything cold (like your refrigerator) and single pictures of yourself. If you want to avoid games in your relationship, do not set up your chess set there. Distractions are also a no-no, so don't put your television set there either.
If you're single, place pink, red, and white flowers in the rear right corner of your bedroom to enhance your love life.
If you're part of a couple, place a picture of you and your beau in a pink frame, and place white or red candles nearby.
The most important thing to remember about feng shui is that you're looking for your ch'i. You don't necessarily have to redecorate your home to achieve this effect. Even a correctly placed wastebasket can do wonders for your luck and success. Have a feng shui good time! ¤ C.Ho.
