Stuff for your face and new spring looks…

Michelle
It is official, the start of spring is here and I am more than ready to bid adieu to the cold nasty weather and embrace the upcoming warm season. I thought that I would ease my way into spring by updating my look. Don’t worry; this doesn’t involve me spending a fortune on hot new looks. Instead, I decided to revamp my humdrum hairstyle.

Spring is all about change, so I opted to get rid of my signature do and go for a look that I’ve never had before. I’ve sported many styles in the past – chemically straightened hair, braids, cornrows, twists and a funky Afro puff – but I was eager to do something a little daring. The one style that I suited me the most was twists, but I stopped wearing them because I felt that they were lacking a certain je ne sais quoi. But last month I decided to don them again, but this time I wanted to take it to the next level. Instead of having thin, lifeless twists, I wanted to kick it up a notch with a sizzling hot colour.

I haven’t used chemicals in my hair for about four years, so to achieve the summery look that I desired, I had to add a few brightly coloured pieces (extensions) to create a very fiery look. The extensions gave my hair some extra bounce, and the golden locks added the kick that I was looking for.

Let me tell y’all, I have never received such amazing feedback from anything that I have done. My co-workers and friends raved, my mom gushed, and men were paying me a lot of compliments. It felt great!

I loved the hairstyle as well. Not only did it brighten up my appearance, it also changed the way that I felt. I felt sexier, more girlie, and more confident. The seven hours that it took to add the extensions was well worth it!

To anyone who is tired of their hairstyle or has had it for as long as they can remember: try modifying your look. It is a simple way to modernize your look and give a healthy boost to your ego. ¤ Michelle

If you really stop to think about it, there are a lot of yucky everyday things that can get into your pores and wreak havoc. Even if you scrub your face three times a day with a giant loofah sponge and a sandblaster, chances are that your skin will still never be completely clean. And that, sadly, can lead to clogged pores, pimples, scaly skin, and other undesirable things sitting on our faces.

I’ve always been plagued with less than stellar skin. During grade school health class, we learned about puberty and our changing bodies, and the teenage plague of pimples, hairiness, and cracking voices. But nothing could prepare me for the eventual demise of my skin. At the stroke of midnight on my thirteenth birthday, my complexion went from soft, smooth and rosy-cheeked to a full-out war zone. After several years of battling my zits with varying doses of Oxy, toothpaste (which never, ever works), and assorted toners, which left my combination skin dry and oily, it was time to speak to a professional. And that is how I began my life-long relationship with my dermatologist, who recommended NeoStrata.

I have very limited knowledge in skin care and frankly, can’t tell the difference between alpha hydroxy, lactobionic acid, or salicylic acid (much to my dermatologist’s disappointment). But what I can tell you is that Neostrata works. The company specializes in skin care and offers multitudes of lines in face creams, night treatments, toners, facial cleansers, sunscreens, and foundations. NeoStrata also has targeted lines of facial care creams for conditions such as eczema, psoriasis, and hypersensitive skin. My cream of choice is the daytime smoothing cream – glycolyc acid is its main active ingredient. Of course, the skin-conscious folks at NeoStrata have also included level 15 SPF in their lines of creams to offer protection against the sun and premature wrinkles.

After several months of using the smoothing cream, there was a notable difference in my skin. The cream itself doesn’t diminish pimples, but it does a great job of sloughing off dead skin and accelerating the process of evening out bumpy scars from acne. The result is glowing, healthier skin with the softness of a baby’s bottom. Coupled with a good skin-care regimen, NeoStrata will work wonders. ¤ C.Ho.
